Dan and I finally saw Where The Wild Things Are. This was Dan’s favorite book growing up and when he first saw the extended preview for it, he got a little teary eyed. I have to admit, I did too. We were unable to go opening weekend and we were extremely discouraged by all of the negative reviews the movie received. I’m so glad that we refused to listen to them, because the movie was amazing. No, it is not a fun loving, happy-go-lucky children’s movie, but we never expected it to be. I think I was prepared for it because I had listened to an interview with Maurice Sendak on NPR the week of the movie release. The movie was powerful and captured the emotions of a child in vivid and understandable ways while at the same time putting the child in the roll of the King (or in my opinion, mom) and allowing him to understand what it takes to make everyone happy. Aside from the depth lessons there were to be learned, it was one of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever seen. The fort that they build…oh my goodness. I’ve never seen orange flowers look so perfectly lovely. So here is my rebuke to the critics (yes, rebuke-not response)- you are too into pop culture to understand true beauty. You criticize movies that show true feelings, but acclaim romantic comedies that are so far away and disconnected from how things happen in real life.

Yes this is a photography blog. Forgive my little rants, I just really liked this movie.
