Austin Wedding Photographer | Duchman Winery

I had the privilege of second shooting a wedding with my friend Ann at the Duchman Winery in Austin Texas. Ann has been my second shooter a few times and it was fun to be on the other side of things. I haven’t been the assistant in a while and I have to admit, there was a part of me that enjoyed showing up with zero prep work. Second shooting may be my new thing.

I love the fun little moments.

It really was so fun to second shoot. This is an example of a moment that happened while Ann was arranging the next round of portraits. These are my favorite images from weddings, it was awesome to be the one actually taking the fun spontaneous images! It’s not that I don’t capture spontaneous moments when I am primary on weddings, but I am trying to make sure all of the “must have” shots are taken and often times my second shooter ends up with more fun random moments (like the one below) than I do.

This next series of images really makes me smile.

It really was a lovely ceremony and the weather was perfect. Only in Texas can you get married outside in January!

The Duchman winery has moved to my list of top 10 favorite wedding venues. I love the versatility of an outdoor ceremony with an indoor reception. So many venues offer one or the other and it’s important to have a back-up indoor location in case of in climate weather. The indoor facility at the winery is lovely and could have easily been a beautiful ceremony location as well. It also had an abundance of locations for outdoor portraits which is pretty much my #1 qualification for picking a venue. Most Brides already have venues picked out by the time they get to me, but if by chance they do not, I keep a list of my favorites around. Duchman Winery, welcome to the list!

Ali & Cole you had a lovely wedding. I’m so glad I was able to be a part of it. Aunt Kristy was also happy to spend some time with River while I was shooting. This was my first wedding back since having River which is one of the reasons I wanted to second shoot and take it slow. I will admit, it was hard. I checked my phone every hour for emergency text messages. He survived and I survived so I guess this means life goes on. My baby won’t be a baby for long… Have you noticed all of my posts somehow end up talking about River? I guess it’s a mom thing.

Fort Worth Wedding Photographer | Ryan + Ashlea Married

I am so excited to blog about Ryan and Ashlea’s wedding at the Victory Arts Center in Fort Worth. I have treasured editing all of their images, as this is my last wedding for a while… I really do count myself blessed to have ended 2011 with this wedding. Though I have only been around Ryan and Ashlea for a brief time, I can tell that they are two extremely fun and joyous people. You know, the kind of people that you enjoy hanging around because they put you in a better mood by just being in the room. Some people have the gift for sharing happiness and these two definitely have this gift.

Ashlea’s smile is contagious and Ryan just ADORES her. I basically didn’t have to work at all, I just observed their love and they did the rest.

Did I pose this below? Well…no, I didn’t. See, told you I had it easy.

Their ceremony was also extremely special to me. In all of the weddings I have photographed in the past few years I had yet to photograph a wedding that used any of the songs Dan and I had used in our wedding. Ashlea and Ryan chose “In Christ Alone” to sing during worship which is one of the songs we sang during worship at our wedding. It’s such a powerful song for me, but added to the memory of my wedding it flung me into reflecting on how blessed life has been and continues to be. This post about Ashlea and Ryan is turning into a personal post about myself pretty quickly…pardon me, back to the stars of the show.

A HUGE thank you to Rachel for second shooting with me. Shooting at 34 weeks pregnant was difficult and I’m not sure I could have done it without her support and skills to back me up. She took this lovely shot below.

I almost always have a second shooter with me for many, many reasons. One of the main reasons is it allows multiple angle shots in a quick amount of time (which is key during a wedding!). Here is an example:

Katie + Brian Married | Granbury, TX

Katie and Brian were married at the Inn on Lake Granbury, on of my very favorite wedding venues. I love photographing weddings at the Inn on Lake Granbury for so many reasons. First, it is a gorgeous venue right off of the lake and the lighting is always beautiful. I love the majestic trees which are right up against the lake as well. The inn itself is also such a delight. Dan and I had the privilege of staying there for a night before we moved to Corpus Christi and it was truly a treat. I also love working with the Inn because of the amazing staff. They are creative and delightful. I always love the flower arrangements that they do and the food is outstanding.

Victoria + Peter Married

Vicki and Peter got married this past weekend and I got to ATTEND! I am always honored when a friend asks me to photograph their wedding, but I am even more honored when they ask if I would like to photograph or attend. Such sweet friends to allow me to enjoy their special day with them. I was not even planning on taking my camera, but I was driving back to Corpus Christi the day of their wedding from Fort Worth and had all of my gear with me because I had shot a wedding the night before. I covered most of my gear but I brought my camera and memory cards with me camouflaged in my Kelly Moore and I am SO glad I did. I have to admit, I didn’t snap too many photos and I have a twinge of regret because their wedding was just so awesome. That just means I am really looking forward to looking through their actual wedding photos soon and reliving the fun that happened. From the individually made wedding programs (yes you read that correctly) to the beautiful unique vows, to Peter singing the ENTIRE song of Celebrate Good Times as the bridal party exited it was an all around amazing wedding.

It sprinkled a wee bit right before the ceremony, but I think it was perfectly timed. It was just enough rain and cloud cover to cool everyone down for the 5 o’clock wedding.

The venue was absolutely gorgeous. If anyone is looking for an Austin venue, please check out The Winfield Inn. It’s actually in Kyle, TX but very close to Austin.

Victoria and Peter and the unity painting. I had to snap this picture, they were right down the isle from me. I promise this was the only ceremony picture I took. Actually, the pictures on the blog were the only ones I took! I only photographed my favorite things.

What can I say, I love cake.

I really wish I had videoed Vicki and Peter’s vows, or the performance at the beginning of the reception but by the time the first dance came around I knew I should probably use the Canon 5D Mark ii’s video abilities to capture whatever amazingness was about to happen and I am so glad I did. Vicki surprised Peter at their first dance, instead of dancing to the song they had planned they danced to a song that Vicki wrote and had been working on secretly since before they were engaged.

I have absolutely loved working with Alexa and Eric. They are such a sweet couple and they incorporated so much of their personality into their wedding, I just loved all of the unique details!

Alexa and Eric did not see each other before the wedding, but they did exchange sweet words on opposite sides of a door.
